Pakistan defeated England by in a thrilling encounter by 14 runs to register their first win in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. With this win, Pakistan have ended their winless 12 match streak.
England won the toss at Nottingham and invited Pakistan to bat first. Pakistan got off to a brilliant start with openers Imam ul Haq and Fakhar Zaman. Imam scored 44 while Fakhar made 36. Babar Azam played well for his 66 ball 63 which included 4 fours and a six.
Mohammad Hafeez was the standout performer with the bat for Pakistan as he smashed 84 runs from 62 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed scored quick 55 runs. Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali shared 3 wickets each for England.
Chasing a mammoth target of 350 runs to win, England lost opener Jason Roy early. Bairstow scored 32 runs. After few quick wickets, England were once struggling at 4-118. Butler along with Joe Root 130 run partnership for fifth wicket. Both batsmen completed their centuries. Root made 107 while Butler smashed 103 runs from 76 balls.
Wahab Riaz picked up 3 wickets for Pakistan while Shadab Khan and Mohammad Amir shared 2 wickets each.
