Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets in the second qualifier at Visakhapatnam to go through to the final clash against their arch rivals Mumbai Indians. This will be the 8th IPL final for the men in yellow out of the 10 seasons they’ve played so far.
Chennai faced Delhi after having lost against Mumbai in the first qualifier at their own home ground Cheupak. Delhi on the other hand were coming after a thrilling win against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator.
Chennai won the toss and elected to field first. CSK was brilliant with the ball as they kept picking up wickets in regular intervals to restrict Delhi to 147/9 from 20 overs. Rishabh Pant was the top scorer for Delhi with 38 runs off 25 balls which included 2 fours and a six. Colin Munro contributed a 24 ball 27 in the Delhi’s total. Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja shared 2 wickets each while Imran Tahir bagged a wicket.
Chennai in reply got off to a good start with Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson adding 81 runs for the first wicket. Both Watson and du Plessis made 50 runs each. du Plesis scored 7 fours and a six while Watson’s inning included 3 fours and 4 sixes. Trent Boult, Axar Patel, Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra shared a wicket each for Delhi Capitals.
Chennai will now compete against Mumbai Indians in the finals of the ongoing VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday at Hyderabad.
